SQL query prob

hi
  i have problem in sql . i have a table in db.leaveapplication which have a two fields leavefromdate and leavetodate.Now i have a values store in thes fields. 7/3/2003 and 10/3/2003 . now if a user select a
two date fields . how i check these date are not between or equal to this fields 
                   thanks
