Error with Importing

Hi, I'm getting the following error when I try to import a dump file created in Oracle 8.1.7 on AIX. I am importing into Oracle 8.1.6 on Windows 2k server. I believe I need to change the NLS settings BUT every time I try my oracle instance throws an error! The Error:- "Import: Release 8.1.6.0.0 - Production on Fri Dec 13 12:11:54 2002 (c) Copyright 1999 Oracle Corporation. All rights reserved.
