I can reproduce the problem by changing the “Active Title Bar”
setting on Windows 7 down to 17. Seems to work OK at 18 and up. Will let you
know if I can fix it.

Bad and great news,

I've reproduced the issue, but now I know exactly what happened and it's very tricky. I used to modify title bar size of my Windows interface. On Window XP "classic" theme, I set it from 18 to 15. And it's the only reason why the connection window of Toad crash. If I set it back to 18, Toad works normally. This has been tested on Windows 7 using 17 instead of 24 on the same parameter of the default theme  and the Toad connection window crash in the same way.

I hope this is the only reason why this issue could happened.

Hi,

Once my laptop been freshly restored I installed Toad on it and it works. I have to restore all my data and softwares now, hoping I won't break anything.

At this point, it's impossible to say what happened. I may suppose about some kind of conflicts with older version or maybe another software. I really don't know.

Well I just installed Toad 11 on an XP machine that has never had any version of
Toad on it before, and it started up right away.

I know you both said you did fresh installs (not copying user files) but if you
care to zip up your user files folder and send it to me, I’ll give it
another try. I’m not sure what else to suggest at this point. It seems
unlikely that you actually have some resource limitation.

It sounds like you have the bases covered. When you get your laptop back from
IT, let me know if there is still a problem and I’ll do my best to help
you resolve it.

I have a plain old XP box sitting around here, I’ll try installing Toad on
it today.

Peter – for some reason, the only time I see your messages is when Wilfrid
replies to them. Are you emailing to ToadForOracle or yahoo? If TFO, will you
try Yahoo?

When you need to uninstall any program, I recommend using freeware version of
Revo Unistaller: http://www.revouninstaller.com/start_freeware_download.html

You will find this mentioned in numerous magazine reviews and articles as being
one of the top 10 tools all IT professionals should use. It offers an advanced
uninstall option that runs the standard product uninstall and then removes any
registry and/or directories that persisted.

I’d also recommend using any one of a dozen freeware registry cleaners
such as the Wise Registry Cleaner: http://www.wisecleaner.com/soft/WPCESetup.exe

There are many such tools and this one is pretty good. Another that I can
recommend is freeware Glary Utilities:

Basically when Windows switched from simple and clean INI files to the registry
– things became complicated and unreliable. Hence such tools are sorely
needed J

Hi John,

I did what you suggested, but it doesn't work. My laptop has been sent to IT maintenance to be reinstalled, not only for that reason (I had some strange issue with other software, so it was better to clean all the machine). I tried another installation on another machine with the same result. Both of the machines had some kind of Toad previously installed like 10.6 trial versions. But after the installation I didn't try to use old user files. In addition old versions of Toad have been uninstalled properly and I deleted all remaining Quest's AppData files and registry keys before installing the newer. It's the reason why it is difficult to think there is any relation between the issue and the old versions.

I can't send any older user files because I don't have any copy of them.

Anyway, maybe my previous uninstallation was not as clean as possible. Is there a way to do it surely?

Still open to any suggestions.

Ticket has been opened on Quest Support, but I don't have answer at this time.

Hi Brad and John,

After renaming the 11.0 folder in

C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Application Data\Quest Software\Toad for Oracle and  answering the setup questions I still have the same problem.

Just like Wilfred I also rebooted my PC after installing TOAD 11.0.
And just like Wilfred I installed the DBA Suite version.

This is just a plain vanilla Windows XP installation. On the server on which I succesfully installed TOAD is 64 bit Windows 2008R2 installed.

Hello,

You mentioned that you copied files over from a previous Toad install. This
sounds like an upgrade issue. I would suggesting following the steps below to
first diagnose this as such.

1. With Toad closed, navigate to your users's App Data folder\Roaming\Quest
Software\Toad for Oracle

2. Rename the folder "11.0"

3. Launch toad

If you don't get the error, we can continue from here, depending on which, if
any settings you want to retain from 10.6

Try going to C:\Users\ It's the same after a reboot even with nothing else running.
Ah, that's a bummer then! Normally a reboot will reset everything to a
clean state and all the resources will/should be free.

I have to admit to not having a [further]clue at this point. :-(

Afternoon Wilfred,

"Out of resources" means that you have a Windows problem, not a Toad 
problem.

XP doesn't have the same resources limits as previous versions of 
Windows, but it still has them. I use Windows 2000 (don't ask) at work, 
and I get troubles too with resources - icons vanish etc - I have to 
restart to get rid of all the resource leaks that Windows is prone to.

What happens after a fresh restart - does it work?

I got exactly the same issue with Toad for Oracle 11 DBA Suite.
I tried it on Windows XP SP3.

It has been installed on another machine with the same OS without any problems.

Is anybody can help ?

Downloaded and installed 11.0.
Told TOAD to use my 10.6 preferences.
After restarting the connections windows doesn't come.
Instead it produces an error message:

Error reading StatusBar.Left: Out of system resources.

You'll find the EuekaLog attached.
What kind of SystemResources can be meant?

There is still 600MB RAM and 1,5GB HD free.


FYI I also installed it on a W2K8 server, and there I didn't have any problems so far.
