This process would keep the objects updated in the svn repository and once run in the database it would update there as well. The last question now then is the check-in / check-out within TOAD. If I just open the file in my local repository, with subversion it is marked as changed and needs update. I can use my svn client to just right click and do a SVN commit. How does the check-out in TOAD need to be used? Will it do the check-out only in subversion? If I use the schema browser and check a file out from the Team Coding menu, is it not checked out in subversion and updated in the local repository where then a subsequent Check-in would be needed? I may repost it so it goes out. No, I got it twice, maybe your spam filter trapped it first time? > How do you open the local files in TOAD typically if you need to update some object? In the normal way - I click on the dropdown button or on the file open button on the toolbar, navigate to and select the file(s) I want. > I realize, I can open a file in TOAD, but I use the schema browser to locate what I am >looking for, say a package and then can see the script. Although I have the objects in the database, because I have the option that allows me to compile directly inside the database turned off, I must load a script into the editor to be able to compile the object. So, I load the file for the object in question, edit it, compile, repeat as necessary and eventually, save it. It's second nature to my way of working (now!) but it means that I keep a full record of changes that I've made to any of the objects within the database. Also, does this keep the Team Coding piece in synch with the repository? Because the working files are edited and saved, Subversion flags them up as modified and I commit them to the repository as and when. Other DBA/Developers in the team can then run an svn update to pick up my changes - either when they next want to edit them, or they will be forced to update next time they try to commit their own changes. So, working in this way, keep the repository up to date with the database. I never used to have that setting configured, but I once edited and compiled an object and "lost" track of the changes. Luckily it was my own system and I don't share those scripts with others, so I was able to chastise myself - and then I made sure that the option was set to prevent me messing up again! > Sorry for so many newbie questions, but really need to fix our sloppy control process. Fear not, we all start somewhere. We don;t mind questions of any kind on this list - ask away, if I can't help, someone else will. -- Cheers, Norm.
