RE: Power outage, lost connection info and saved sql

I don't like the solution of a backup file noted below. I've rolled that back and now validating the datafile after saving. SavedSQL.dat will not be updated if there is an exception. This should be a better method as it catches cases where Toad is interrupted mid-save.

Hi Wendy. I've received your .err file offline and unfortunately am able to get nothing from it. If I open the file in Notepad++ I can clearly see many statements in there, but the file is binary and I'm not sure how to terminate the file properly by stripping the trailing nulls (the corruption) in such a way that Toad can still load the file without error. We use Delphi's built-in component streaming functionality for this so it's not a file format that I fully understand.

This comes up at times under circumstances I cannot explain. I do not know why a power outage would cause corruption in this file. It would seem unlikely that the saving of the file would occur at the precise moment the power went out, but you are not the first to report problems with this file under unexpected circumstances. In an attempt to alleviate this annoyance I've made a change. When SavedSQL.dat is saved, the previous copy of it is saved to SavedSQL.bak. When loading the file from disk if corruption is detected in the .dat file an attempt to load the .bak file is made. This isn't the perfect solution, but perhaps it will eliminate the total loss of all saved SQL. 

Did you just upgrade to 11.5 by chance? If so you may still have your 11.0 appdata folder on disk. Look at your appdata folder and look for the 11.0_uninstalled folder. If you close Toad you can copy the SavedSQL.dat file from the "11.0_uninstalled\User Files" folder into your 11.5 user files folder. You'll lose any statements saved during your 11.5 use, but perhaps that hasn't been for too many days now since 11.5 was just released.

Hi, We had a power outage when I was using Toad, when my machin came 
back up and I tried to start Toad up again, I got an error that 
Connection info can't be shared between computer and that the file will 
be deleted...?  So, all my connections and passwords were deleted...ok, 
but what I'm really missing is my saved sql.  I got an error saying it 
couldn't be opened and it saved it to a .err file.  Is there any way I 
can get my saved sql back?
