I know how much Mark appreciates the brevity of the social media "Me too"
response, but as I'm stuck waiting on an open SR from Oracle:

I do see the point of the folks wanting more "flash".  First impressions are
important.  If the tool looks flashy then the tool itself must be good,
right?  In a rare coincidence, I believe the Spotlight tools (I've used the
Oracle, Sybase, and now MSSQL editions) have lived up to that, in my
experience.  Perhaps the thinking is that the Spotlight design can translate
well to other tools in order to attract the NEW customer.

But like DirecTV's flawed marketing, I think that flash without substance
would only serve to frustrate the established customer base, especially
those relative few of us in the Beta program who have sparred with verbal
swords over Toad's usability and looks (I *loved* the discussions of Toad's
color schemes back in the old days!) .

Another case of "flash" (literally) is My Oracle Support.  The new version
(Flash and the new HTML one) made researching a complex topic (like a
cross-platform Enterprise Manager migration/upgrade) that requires reading
and referencing several linked MOS articles very very difficult.  Recently,
I had about 10 articles up when I went to lunch.  When I came back, they had
timed out (for security???) and I had to restart my research since there In
other words, making this tool flashy severely limited its usability.

Apparently you haven't played AB much -- it's only cute and fun until one
seeks to master it!
