Does this occur several times per instance of Toad or is it only the first execution for an instance? The parser DLL is loaded once per Toad session the first time it is needed. I am not sure what initialization occurs during the load, but I have seen that the first time the formatter is invoked the format is slower than subsequent formats. It also uses the same DLL.

Subject: [toad] TOAD appears to "pause" before executing a query?

Anyone else notice this? I can't reproduce it consistently but quite often TOAD will appear to pause before executing a query against the database - I'm guessing it's doing some of its own parsing before issuing the command against the database. It's small, probably about a second, but when you are expecting a sub-second response from the query TOADs overhead can be a little frustrating.

It doesn't appear to be related to the size of the query either, it's almost as if TOAD is doing some kind of initialisation.
