I can't be sure, I'm not sure if it's the first instance of a SQL Editor window, or a tab within the SQL Editor. Sometimes it seems like going back to a query after some time I experience the same thing. It's definitely not just the first time TOAD is loaded, I get this several times within the same instance of TOAD. I think it's the parser, TOAD can be very slow coming back and reporting invalid syntax when I execute a query. Could be related. I don't use the formatter. I also have a very underpowered machine. Who only has 2GB of RAM nowadays! If I ever get a reproducible scenario I'll let you know but it appears pretty random at the moment (but several times a day). Just wondered if anyone else had noticed this. --- In [email protected], Michael Staszewski <michael.staszewski@...> wrote: > > Does this occur several times per instance of Toad or is it only the first execution for an instance? The parser DLL is loaded once per Toad session the first time it is needed. I am not sure what initialization occurs during the load, but I have seen that the first time the formatter is invoked the format is slower than subsequent formats. It also uses the same DLL. > > Michael > > -----Original Message----- > From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of r_squires > Sent: Sunday, May 06, 2012 11:58 PM > To: [email protected] > Subject: [toad] TOAD appears to "pause" before executing a query? > > Anyone else notice this? I can't reproduce it consistently but quite often TOAD will appear to pause before executing a query against the database - I'm guessing it's doing some of its own parsing before issuing the command against the database. It's small, probably about a second, but when you are expecting a sub-second response from the query TOADs overhead can be a little frustrating. > > It doesn't appear to be related to the size of the query either, it's almost as if TOAD is doing some kind of initialisation. > > > > ------------------------------------ > > Yahoo!
