I got it. It wasn't the read-only check box. It's the file extension. My file extensions are ".txt". If I use ".sql" or some other file extension, then I can "execute".

Is the connection read only?  Look on the login screen.  There is a checkbox for that in the grid with all the login entries.  Maybe you accidentally checked it.

I'm connected before I open the file. As I said to Bert, I still have TOAD 11.0 on my pc and when I use that version, I don't have any problem.

Sounds like the editor was opened before a connection was made, and it isn't associated with any connection.   Use the 'change connection' but to do that
