Introducing Toad 11.6

Today we're excited to bring to you the beginning of the beta program for Toad 11.6, which includes the start of several important initiatives, with more to follow in the coming weeks.
Toad 11.6 64 Bit

Toad x64 is finally here!  We wanted to bring to you the 64-bit version first in order to get as many beta volunteers as possible to start using this version.  If you are on a 64-bit platform, with a 64-bit Oracle Home, please consider participating in this important beta program.  If you require 32-bit Toad, that will be coming within a week or so. We want to secure a healthy beta population for the 64-bit version first.

Known Limitations
Toad uses a large collection of Third Party libraries, and 64-bit versions of all of these had to be secured. One of them is missing, which supports the importing and exporting to XLS. As soon as we can get a beta version of this library we will re-enable XLS support.  Another library is in beta - EurekaLog, which is used for call stack/error data capturing.  There were last minute issues with putting this into the x64 version. They may be worked out next week.  Until then, this is turned off too.

A separate email will be sent with the normal compilation of the new additions and changes for this version.

myToad

myToad is the beginning of a whole new initiative which targets the mobile crowd.  For our initial release the functionality includes the ability to execute scripts which reside in a DropBox account or enter ad-hoc queries manually (it includes a powerful syntax editor).

First - install Toad x64 beta, run it, go into Options > General and turn on the option:

Then, create a DropBox account.  Then go here:

mytoadbeta.toadworld.com

Once you authenticate with DropBox, what can I say - play around!  The one item worth noting is you don't have to enter an Oracle Home, it will use your default one.  You also don't have to have Toad running on the client.  The 'ToadCloudSync.exe' is a background tray application which polls DropBox looking for job files. When it finds one it downloads the scripts to execute, runs them via TSR.exe and pushes the result files back up to DropBox and myToad lets you know you've got results to view.  All of this data moving around is fully encrypted.

If you bring up myToad on a smart phone you can save the website to your desktop and get this little beauty on the lower right:

DropBox File Synchronization

Toad 11.5 beta users will remember the late introduction of Toad user file online storage and synchronization via DropBox.  All of us on the team are excited about this technology. We encourage you to give it a try and rest easier, knowing all of your important user application files are being backed up, available across multiple computers and enjoy the automatic file versioning you get with DropBox. Enable it via the screenshot shown earlier.
