We are looking for an experienced database administrator to work within 
our Oxford based Head Office.

This role will be responsible for the managing the databases used within 
Adestra's systems, the interaction of Adestra's infrastructure with the 
databases and assisting with the ongoing development of Adestra's 
web-based marketing platform, MessageFocus.

Primary responsibilities:

* Designing and implementing new application features and functionality
* Working with developers to optimise their database interaction.
* Installing, Tuning, Patching, Monitoring and Upgrading PostgreSQL servers.
* Setting up backups and testing on regular basis.
* Replication monitoring, set-up and management.
* Query and performance analysis and optimisation.
* Purchasing and testing new hardware.
* Auditing security and permissions.
* Maintain documentation of maintenance and upgrade tasks.

Skills:

* Strong understanding of PostgreSQL
* Experience with performance tuning PostgreSQL servers
* Experiences with SQL query analysis/optimisation.
* Experience with writing documentation
* Knowledge of UNIX-like systems

* PostgreSQL
* PL/pgSQL
* FreeBSD
* CentOS
* Perl
* Python
* Redis

Personal Characteristics

* Able to work with limited supervision and show initiative where 
relevant, the individual will be confident, bright and happy to share 
their ideas with others.
* Will assist other members of the team as and when required.
* The ideal candidate will have excellent English and effective 
communication skills.
Must be comfortable dealing with people at all levels of an organisation 
and ideally be familiar with some marketing terminology.
* A good humoured team player; the ideal candidate will take pride in 
their work and the business as a whole.
* It is essential that the candidate be presentable and exhibits a high 
degree of professionalism.

Salary and hours of work

* The role will be based in Adestra’s Oxford Offices.  The role will run 
for an initial trial period of 3 months, and if successful will continue 
on an ongoing basis.
