Position: Postgres Developer/ with DBA Skills

Role

 *   Planning, coordinating, and administering activities related to PostgreSQL database(s), including:
    *   User management
    *   Backup
    *   Performance benchmarking
    *   Upgrades
    *   Operational guidelines
    *   Security
 *   Coding both server side (PL/pgSQL and SQL) and client side (Ruby, Shell, Pentaho, and Python) as needed
 *   Partner with project team to ensure the most effective and efficient strategy for:
    *   Database access
    *   Query optimization
    *   Database concurrency
    *   Schema design
 *   Assist and mentor engineers in optimizing queries and schemas

Education/Experience Required

 *   Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field
 *   5-8 years relevant work experience or equivalent combination of education and work experience
 *   5 years DBA experience with Oracle, Postgres, and mySQL

   Required Competencies

 *   Solid database development skills
 *   Exceptional ability to identify and resolve database-related issues
 *   Experience in developing stored function and database client applications
 *   Knowledge of standard operating procedures for administering PostgreSQL databases
 *   Experience in performance of Tune and Benchmark PostgreSQL databases, as well as working knowledge of back-up and recovery PostgreSQL databases
 *   Skilled in user, schema, and storage management
 *   Results-oriented and service-minded
 *   Willingness to adapt to the many changing requirements/needs of a fast-growing, young company
 *   Collaborative work ethic and ability to work in a team-oriented culture
 *   Motivated, self-directed, and proactive with a willingness to take on additional projects
 *   Proven track record of excellence, ownership, and accountability

   Preferred Competencies

 *   Working knowledge of Ruby
 *   Working knowledge of Pentaho and Kettle
 *   Amazon EC2/EBS experience
