RRD C API's for RRDCACHED

Hi All,
         I am planning to use RRDCached as i see some IO performance issues.
         If i start using rrdcached , is there a variation in the C API calls i am using currently (rrdupdate , create ) ? If so , what and how do i get this compiled in.
         What should i do for PHP bindings.
