That fixed it.  It just occured to me that it might be a good idea to give
_you_ an account on the development system.  Would that be helpful at all?

Put a '(char *)' before the NiErrorTrace:
printf ( "missing NiErrorTrace  >%s<", (char *) NiErrorTrace ) ;
