Increase 512 character limit for SQL statements

I'm using Perl (on Linux) to run queries against a MS/SQL database and I'm running into a limitation on the length of my SQL statements.  The limit appears to be ~512 characters.  Does anyone have instructions regarding the source code that must be changed to increase this limit?
