error using data type nvarchar(max)

When try to get data of type nvarchar(max) always 
displays an error, 


Fedora 9, running apache 2.0, php code and freetds 0.82, 
to connect to a SAP (not modificable structure) SQL Server 2005, 
on windows server, 

Someone has had this problem before? and the solution
