You might want to go back and check your logs from a few years ago. 
FreeTDS hasn't ever been able to connect to an Informix server afaik.  

I find config.log hard to follow.  What is the output when you run
configure?  It should complain about what it can't find, which is usually
a matter of telling it where things are.
