FreeTDS][SQL Server]Unable to connect to data source Timeout?

I am getting this error :[FreeTDS][SQL Server]Unable to connect to  
data source Native Error:0 State:08001
consistently if I leave a connection idle for 15-20 minutes. I cannot  
reconnect until I restart. This is on OS X using iODBC. Does the  
connection timeout or get blocked somehow? Is there a way to get a  
little more information about the failure to connect? I know the  
server is available still and without fail I connect on reboot.
