Connection to MSSQL from C using freeTDS

Hi, 
Can someone tell me how to compile a C program to work with freeTDS?
I have got freeTDS installed on Sun Solaris and MSSQL on windows, I was 
able to connect to MSSQL from perl using freeTDS.
Now I would need to do it with C and C++ also.

I have gone through the documentation given in http://freetds.org/ but 
could not locate some help on this.
Any ideas are appreciated.
