I hear there's even support for SSL-encrypted connections these days, which may be of interest to you in your hosted situation. By installing a current nightly version, you'd at the very least get the MS SQL 2000-level support (TDS ver. 7.1) back. Anyway, I should let somebody more appropriate answer you. I stopped using MS SQL and thus FreeTDS seven years ago. Anything more recent than that I just picked up while lurking on this mailing list here.
