Sybperl with freeTDS

Hi,

I have some Perl programs which are using Sybperl and connecting to Sybase
database.
I would like to connect to SQL server, I have installed freeTDS on my Unix
machine. Do I have to explicitly compile/link Sybperl with freeTDS?
If yes, would it affect the existing functionality of my code?

Any help is much appreciated.
