datetime display in perl dbi

Sometime back I posted how in unix I don't see datetime fields after minute level.
Aug 1 2011 10:55AM is what I see.

It turned out that this is limited to perl dbi only. bsqldb shows datetime column as follows

Aug 1 2011 10:55:06.737AM

So why only perl dbd is behaving like this.

The freetds version is 0.81
