I've put 8.2 in the config and FreeTDS doesn't obviously complain.
Does it just transparently fall back to some default because 8.2 
actually isn't supported or is 8.2 supported but the list is a wee bit 
dated?

I read   http://www.unixodbc.org/doc/FreeTDS.html   and there it says 
8.0 was the TDS protocol of MSSQL 2000 while the link in the same 
paragraph points to the same table as yours. There it says MSSQL 2000 
was TDS 7.1 and MSSQL 2008 was just TDS 7.2.

There are a number of references for TDS 8.2 on google even though it is 
not mentioned on the protocol list.
So the question stands why ODBCConf doesn't offer at least 7.1 and 7.2 
which are actually on the list.

What's correct?
