FreeTDS version is 7.2.  The data type of the column in question is nvarchar on the SQL server side - would the rest of the table description help?  We are accessing the data via an Oracle link in SQL Developer.  The data is produced by user input.  

How can I produce a dump file?

  any more details like FreeTDS version, possible dump, how did you upload data, tables definition.
