Thank you Randy, but according to my tests, VARCHAR(MAX) works with TDS 7.1, but not with 7.3, and I want to use 7.3 to have datetime2(n)/time(n) support. I see also that SQL Server 2012 / 2014 are not listed in the choosingtdsprotocol.htm page... would be nice that someone clarifies if these server versions are supported. S.
