Hi,
  yesterday I updated OpenSSL cipher list to improve security and compatibility.
If you experience some intermittent connection failure this can be the cause.
Apparently using one specific cipher (I didn't dig enough)
implementation have some
compatibility issue between OpenSSL and SChannel (very recent updates so I
suspect this last component).
You can download version 1.00.15 (or newer) from
ftp://ftp.freetds.org/pub/freetds/stable/
which contains the update.
