'Attach to Process' dialogue empty on SLES9 for x86-64 (ddd v3.3.8)

When trying to attach to a process, through File/Attach to Process... 
the 'Attach to Process' dialogue appears, but it is empty, listing no 
processes to attach to.

OS: Suse Linux Enterprise Server 9 (with or without SP3)
Platform: x86-64
ddd version: 3.3.8

There is to note that the same version of ddd  on SLES9 for x86 works well, 
the dialogue shows the processes I can attach to.
