ddd - unable to parse pathname - substitutions

I'm trying to debug a PalmOS conduit dynamic library, built with xcode 
2.4.1 on MacOS X 10.4.11 using DDD 3.3.1. DDD starts up but the Open 
Source menu item always yields the message unable to parse pathname - 
substitutions. I've viewed the prior posts, tried the solutions, and 
none of the nostrums work.
