Solaris C++ compilers

Has anyone managed to get ups working with version 8 or 9 of the Sun C++ 
compiler for Sparc?  It works fine with the output of version 7, but it 
crashes reading the debugging symbols for 8 or 9.  Recompiling with the 
target compiler doesn't seem to make a difference.

Please don't tell me I have to shelve ups.  Without it I feel like I'm 
debugging with one hand tied behind my back.
