Last we spoke that was after I did some patches for 7.X so probably was that
version.

Ok, drop me a line if you do and I'll send you my UAREA patch if you want/

Yes, may try an older gcc.

I actually think the way to go is to fix up the dwarf support. dwarf seems
to be the default debug format for gcc now, but ups crashes with:

DWARF error : dwarf_init - (DIE <0><0>) DW_DLE_ELF_BEGIN_ERROR 27 a call to elf_begin(... ELF_C_READ_MMAP... ) failed (27)

if you try that. At least that looks debuggable so that's my current plan
of attack.

Previously, with gcc 3.4 I'd always compiled with -gstabs (and still do on
Solaris). I note that FreeBSD has it's own libdwarf (ups uses it's own internal
copy of David Anderson's libdwarf). I don't know whether they are incompatible,
but I've never seen ups handle dwarf properly for any version of FreeBSD, fwiw.

}I have to use Linux @ work so I am interested in the linux
}port as well. Does it work for 64 bit targets or only 32 bit
}ones?

I haven't tried 64 bit as yet since my only 64 bit box is also FreeBSD 8.
You should try the cvs tree for linux - I believe it should work (for dwarf).

}Has anyone used ups with a remote (non-x86) target?

I use it on Sparc (Solaris) - is that what you mean?
