Ups from cvs and 3.38-beta2

I've compiled ups from cvs and it works
with the exception the the source window contains text on what I
thought was a black background. If however, I start ups as:

ups -fg somecolor

then black is replaced by somecolor. Thus somehow, the foreground color
for the source window only, is being set to black and I've not been
able to find an X-resource that controls this. I've just downloaded the
3.37 version and that works as expected. Unfortunately, I can't use it
as I'm using gcc 3.3.

Is there an easy way of fixing the above mentioned problem?
