The lack of typechecking shouldn't be too much of a problem if you take advantage of duck typing - especially via the abstract base classes in newer versions (PEP 3119). It's probably also worth keeping in mind just how many ROXish utilities are written in python - standardising on a 'main' language would be good if its achievable.
