I'm still coming to grips with git, but I think I got this right. 

I'm a decent programmer, but hopeless with tools.

I wrote this patch for running UDE on the XO. It uses a different 
pinboard per desktop,  keeping the window stops flicker and allowing
Nearest neighbour can be a speed boost (and doesn't look too bad for 
scaling up if you are doing something like a 600x450 image double size)
600x450 still looks fine on a 7 inch display :-)
