Running grep on the sources finds this:

It doesn't seem like rox actually checks for a valid value (am I  
wrong?), so you might just be able to change the value in the config  
file (~/.config/rox.sourceforge.net/ROX-Filer/Options):
<Option name="pinboard_grid_step">1</Option>
'though I doubt it will really change anything -- you might need to  
change the calculation:
