It might be. AIUI rox4debian doesn't really have much to do with Debian
at all, it's actually all based on 0install. Your session could be
running under some python ROX-Session buried in the 0install cache,
using XMLRPC instead of D-BUS, so trying to run the C version by
clicking the icon (which does a different thing from running it as your
session manager) won't work.

what does the output of
ps x | grep ROX-Session
say? I get:

 5575 ?        Ss     0:00 /home/tony/Rox/ROX-Session/ROX-Session -w
 5663 ?        S      0:00 dbus-launch --exit-with-session /home/tony/Rox/ROX-Session/AppRun -w
