That option in preferences is working correctly here, too. I'm using the 
latest gtk btw.

As for the "options" dialog: You can also click on the tiny space between 
two buttons, so even without the title you should be able to open the 
dialog. The signal handler is connected to ctrl->base, not just the title. 
I've experimented with that, and tries severeal other things like putting 
an eventbox around the main box widget etc. None worked like I want, but 
we can keep tinkering of course...
