Autogenerated files in SVN

I'm not sure who's responsible for the goodies SVN repo currently, but I
noticed that the repo contains quite a lot of autogenerated files, i.e.

 - Makefile.in (in various folders)
 - configure
 - config.h.in
 - aclocal.m4
 - compile
 - depcomp
 - install-sh
 - intltool-*.in
 - missing
 - mkinstalldirs

and some other files. What is the reason to keep them in the repo?
