Developing these chips is good for pushing towards larger key sizes, though. I'm not sure if I'd buy the chip for stats, but it'd be interesting to fund its development, just to show that 72 bit encryption isn't very hard to crack. If each chip is $100 and I spend a million more, then I have 10K chips to play around with, which is 10 TKeys/s. 2^72/10^13 is 'only' 15 years (far better than the projected 1000 ish years for RC5-72 right now). I'm not sure how easy it would be to pipeline drug-testing algorithms though.
