Rather than writing your own client, why not send an email to Bovine or one of the other co-ordinators and ask if you can port the current codebase to run on this hardware. Most of the key parts of the source (except the network access) are already public anyway. Besides, if its done in co-operation with d.net, it could possibly be run along side the current client network.
