difference between ATI 5850 and 5870 for stream client

Is there much of a difference block wise between a 5850 or a 5870? how many blocks per day would either produce? I am considering getting either one as a father's day gift to myself and giving my GTX 260 to my eldest so he can have two GTX 260's in his machine. Also what would I need to install for the steam client besides the ATI video driver?
