The percentage completed each year if the processing speed doubles every 2 years is: 2002-2012 = 2.44% 2013 = 0.53% 2014 = 0.75% 2015 = 1.06% 2016 = 1.5% 2017 = 2.12% 2018 = 3% 2019 = 4.24% 2020 = 6% 2021 = 8.48% 2022 = 12% 2023 = 16.96% 2024 = 24% 2025 = 33.92% 2026 = 48% 2027 = 67.84% 2028 = 96% We will reach 10% completion in 2018 and 100% in 2025. Assuming that 200 people run distributed.net using 200 watts at 10 cents per kilowatt hour, the power cost is $35,040 per year. The electricity donated to reach 100% in 23 years will cost the participants $805,920. If we had started the project in 2020, we would still reach 100% in 2025, but we would have saved $595,680! If we wait until 2020 now, we will still save $245,280.
