Assuming that 200 people run distributed.net using 200 watts at 10 cents per kilowatt hour, the power cost is $35,040 per year. The electricity donated to reach 100% in 23 years will cost the participants $805,920. If we had started the project in 2020, we would still reach 100% in 2025, but we would have saved $595,680! If we wait until 2020 now, we can still save $245,280.
