Checkpassword 0.90 + Redhat 9.0

Morning folks, hope this isn't a tired question, but I can't find it on 
google, so here it goes..

I installed checkpassword, did the pop test ( as in the installation web 
page ) as root, no problems. su to qmaild, and auth fails. 

Now, I've made sure that qmaild can read /bin/checkpassword, /etc/passwd 
and even /etc/shadow ( although I don't *think* it needs it, but I've 
been wrong before ), and I still get the same errors.  Root, as noted 
earlier, hasn't got this problem, and it works just fine, so I'm banking 
on this being a permissions issue, somewhere.

Erm, help?
