it clear: do not use softupdates for the qmail queue. Use a filesystem
that strictly conforms to the Unix semantics.

 Neither DJB nor you nor me can guarantee that rename() or anything of
the kind will work properly if the underlying filesystem uses an
unreliable sequence of operations. This is not the software author's
problem - it's the administrator's problem.
