Then that explains why my browser is getting a normal reading (Mozilla 1.2)

That question aside then, does anyone have an idea on the 'cd ..' issue 
I wrote on initially?

When I try to go back one directory, it seems to be trying to put me in a
subdirectory called ".." of my current directory:

ftp> pwd
257 "/pub/linux_apps"
ftp> cd ..
250 "/pub/linux_apps/.."
ftp> pwd
257 "/pub/linux_apps/.."
ftp> dir
200 Okay.
550 Sorry, I can't open that file: file does not exist.
ftp>

Why this behavior, instead of moving back one directory?
