I used to spend hours browsing the contents of sites listed in this file of anonymous FTP servers all over the world, compiled by a guy with an address like <[email protected]> or something -- /everyone/ had a copy of this list that he published monthly. To the poster that bitched that Dan didn't support "cd .."; the reason it's not in the FTP spec is, of course, that "cd .." only has that meaning on Unix systems and systems that copied it from Unix. FTP was already in broad use with many other platforms where "cd .." is not meaningful.
