help in environment variables

Hi,
    I have installed publicfile 0.52 in my gobolinux
machine as per the instructions given in the qftpd.org
for ftp server. I have already installed checkpassword
,daemontools and ucspi before the installation of
publicfile . After giving the patch for checkpassword
the uid and gid is disabled .As per the instructions
in publicfile qftpd will have to set the uid and gid
.But the uid and gid are not set by the environment
variables .How can I set the environment variables for
qftpd and where should I set them to set the uid and
gid. In the publicfile directory there are only 'c'
files .So I don't know where or how to get the
environment variables right.

   If anybody knows the answer kindly assist me.
