I've seen a lot of instuctions on the net for how to install daemontools on Red Hat, and most of those instructions will end up with this appended to the end of /etc/inittab: SV:123456:respawn:/command/svscanboot Under RHAS 2.1, at least, this means that svscan is not running at the time the misc scripts under init.d are launched. If any of your scripts attempt a busy-wait, checking for a service to be started after a 'svc -h', the boot script will hang at that point. My workaround was to assure that the above svscanboot line occurs prior to this line in inittab: # System initialization. si::sysinit:/etc/rc.d/rc.sysinit Just FYI.
