They should be no slower than any other Swing app.
Swing is inherently a bit slow though.

converting the XML to Swing classes should be so fast enough to be 
nearly unnoticeable though.

We use it every day at work with dynamically generated XML files which 
should add yet another step of slowness but we just don't notice it at 
all.

Odds are it's not SWIXML that you are noticing as slow... it's Swing.
