Renderers and listeners

Where are we with the whole adding renderers via xml thing? I know 
Frank started something but I think he decided it was a bad 
implementation. Did I miss an iteration after that?

And did anyone get to the adding listeners issue?

Would it be beneficial for me to tackle either of these or would I be 
duplicating someone's work?

I seem to recall that Wolf was in agreement that these would both be 
good things to add right?
